As the population of the Camden Local Government Area (LGA) continues to grow so will the diversity and background of our residents. In the 2016 Census, 77.4% of the population of the people in the Camden LGA were born in Australia and 17.6% were born overseas. 6.5% people were born in English speaking countries and 11.1% were born in non-English speaking countries.
The top ten overseas country of birth were: United Kingdom, New Zealand, India, Philippines, Fiji, Italy, China, South Africa, Malta and Iraq. With India being the highest increase after the United Kingdom and New Zealand.
Cultural diversity brings many benefits to the community in terms of business, investment and tourism. But more importantly, living in a culturally diverse community helps us to understand that regardless of what we look like or where we come from, we share many things in common.
Residents who are from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds (CALD) are people who have migrated to Australia, from both English speaking and non English speaking countries.
