Camden Council Garden Competition Application Form

Proud gardeners and passionate green thumbs are invited to enter the 2023 Camden Council Garden Competition. To be eligible to enter you must live in the Camden Local Government Area.

Whether you’re an amateur who loves to potter or a seasoned garden expert you could win! It is free to enter the competition.

Prizes for each category will be:

  • 1st prize - to the value of $200
  • 2nd prize - to the value of $150
  • Highly commended will receive a certificate.

The Grand Champion will receive a prize to the value of $300, a trophy and a hamper valued at $70. This year winner's will be announced in-person at the Camden Council awards ceremony in November 2023.

Categories

Senior Citizen Garden  Open to anyone 60 years or over as at 02 October 2023.
Small Residential For small private residential gardens.
Large Residential For large private residential gardens.
Veggie Garden/Plot For residents who have an edible garden or plot of fruit, vegetables and/or herbs.
Best Floral Display A showcase of colours and vibrancy.
School/Class Plot Local pre-school, primary and high schools garden or plot maintained by students.
Most Sustainable Garden Residential garden demonstrating sustainability principles such as water saving, reuse of materials, natural pest control, herb and vegetable growing.
Commercial Garden Gardens within local businesses and organisations, e.g. retirement villages, small & large commercial premises etc.

 


Judging Criteria

Overall Garden Layout  Design and placement of garden features, practicality and
aesthetics.
Plant Selection Variety, features, quality, suitability, covering/screenings.
Hard Landscaping Materials used around garden, paths and definition
edging, constructed features eg. Pergolas
Maintenance Soil, mulching, free from pests/diseases, correct pruning/debudding,
plant shaping and health, weeding and good horticultural practices.

 


Eligibility 

Before entering, you must review and agree to the Camden Council Garden Competition Terms and Conditions. 

  • All Gardens must be located with the Camden Local Government Area.
  • All ages are eligible to enter. Entrants under the age of 18 must have permission from their parent or legal guardian to enter.
  • Senior Citizen Garden category only open to entrants aged 60 years or over as of 02 October 2023 (proof of age must be provided at Council’s request).
  • The previous Grand Champion Winner is not eligible to enter in their winning category from the previous 5 years.
  • Entrants may enter more than one category (maximum of 3), however the judges reserve the right to change the category on an entry at their discretion.
  • Camden Council Events Team employees, their families and household members are ineligible to enter.
