Award-winning international art has arrived in Camden, with the Birds of a Feather exhibition now open at Camden Civic Centre.

The exhibition features artworks by contemporary Iranian artists with a common theme of birds in the subject matter. Birds of a Feather demonstrates how illustration can be innovative and abstract at the same time as being approachable and engaging.

Birds of a Feather Curator, Margrete Lamond, said residents have the chance to see world-renown and historic artwork.

“The artists are all Iranian and came from a really deep culture that goes back a number of years,” Ms Lamond said.

“When looking back into the history of Iranian illustration I saw they featured birds a lot. So, I investigated that and it’s a very old, deep history of Persian art.

“The artists are all award-winning illustrators who are quite well-known in Europe and their artwork is simply amazing and it is great to be able to show their works and the history in western Sydney.”

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said Camden was the exhibition’s first stop across western Sydney,

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local artists, arts and crafts groups and creative businesses and individuals to take in a piece or artistic history,” Cr Fedeli said.

“It is an honour for us to be the first place in western Sydney to host the exhibition and I urge art enthusiasts to come and take in the beautiful pieces of art.”

The Birds of a Feather exhibition is open until Friday 27 March and is in Camden Civic Centre’s Ferguson Gallery.

A special Artists Networking Event will be held on Thursday 19 March, 9am-noon, and begins with a practical workshop for creative practitioners.
