Residents can have their say on the future of Camden Libraries with a series of community engagement activities planned this month.

Council will host the activities as part of the development of its Camden Library Strategy 2020-24, including:

  • Library consultation stations installed at Camden, Narellan and Oran Park libraries, open for feedback until Monday 21 September;
  • A face-to-face pop-up at Narellan Library on Saturday 5 September from 10am-noon;
  • A face-to-face pop-up will be held at Oran Park Library on Saturday 12 September from 10am-noon.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli said it was the community’s second chance to voice their opinion after more than 400 submissions were received through an online survey early this year.

“Being the fastest growing area in Australia, Camden’s library service needs to continue growing and it is important that we hear what the community would like to see from their libraries,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Camden Libraries already does a fantastic job within the community and this is all about enhancing that experience for our library users and going to the next level.

“Council staff have already collated results from our survey earlier this year and I encourage everyone to take part in these engagement activities and contribute to the development of the new Library Strategic Plan.”

The new Strategic Plan will build on the principles outlined in the Camden Library Strategic Plan 2003-2010, which sought for the libraries to provide:

  • An environment rich in experience;
  • A range of recreational opportunities from puppet shows for children, play stations for adolescents, literary discussion and workshops for adults;
  • Opportunities for learning - from bubs and books programs for toddlers to internet classes for seniors;
  • Opportunities to meet, form connections, a communal meeting place;
  • A place to be - a safe place that provides opportunities for individuals to pursue areas of interest or to participate in group activities;
  • An environment of acceptance and valuing – where all members of the community feel significant and represented in the environment and programs provided; and
  • A place for people to call their own - to belong.
