Work to construct Camden’s first premier cricket facility will begin shortly, after Council accepted a tender at last night’s Ordinary Meeting.
Ferguson’s Land Cricket Facility is set to add to Council’s state-of-the-art sporting facilities and is partly funded by the Western Parkland City Liveability program. Stage One work will include:
- A cricket oval with turf centre wickets, irrigation and picket fencing;
- Amenities building with toilets, changerooms and storage;
- Carparking facilities;
- Five synthetic practice cricket nets;
- New bridge access over Matahil Creek;
- Maintenance shed;
- Electrical substation; and
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the almost $8.4 million facility would further improve the area’s sporting prowess.
“As Camden continues to grow it is important Council provides appropriate facilities for families to use close to home,” Cr Fedeli said.
“The Ferguson’s Land Cricket Facility will truly become the home of cricket in the area and could welcome hundreds of people every weekend through the summer.
“Coupling this with Narellan Sports Hub Stage Two construction beginning two weeks ago and the near completion of Camden's first synthetic football field at Nott Oval in Narellan , it is fantastic to see more high-class facilities being delivered in Camden.
“The benefits of sport for the community cannot be underestimated and equally important the construction also helps boost our local economy and support our fantastic local businesses.
“I’d like to thank the Federal and State Governments for their funding towards this project and look forward to its completion.”
Local business TJ and RF Fordham Pty Ltd were successful in the tender for the works.
Works are expected to be completed by December 2021.
