Housing Affordability & Homelessness
On Thursday the 22nd of May 2025, the Mayor of Camden, Councillor Ashleigh Cagney, hosted Camden’s inaugural Housing Affordability and Homelessness Forum. This forum resulted from a notice of motion that Councillor Peter McLean raised in the December 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting.
This forum brought together more than 70 people from across a variety of organisations and sectors including community housing providers, specialist housing providers, developers, real estate agents, local resident advocacy groups, government agencies across all three levels of government and other non-government agencies.
The forum was designed to proactively and collectively respond to the housing affordability and homelessness challenges faced across the Camden Local Government Area (LGA).
The forum recognised that responding to the challenges faced would require collaboration from all levels of government and a variety of other stakeholders. It was designed to be the first step in developing a local, shared response to housing affordability and homelessness within Camden.
Following on from the forum a report was developed.
This report provides an overview of the forum including the key themes from the presentations, panel discussions, and the workshops. Additionally, it provides the ten actions that came out of this forum and next steps including how Council will report on these actions.
Council will develop a smaller working group that will be actioned focused to move this valuable work forward in Camden, this group will meet quarterly, beginning early 2026. To register your interest in this group please complete this form.
