Artwork Statement
This collection of five still life works captures the power of the colour-saturated image and dynamic essence of beauty and wildness in floral works. The poppy is a recurring motif in Wray’s work. When growing up, her mother had a verdant garden full of poppies. The two poppy artworks together celebrate the flower’s simplicity, translucency, and its vivacious nature. Pink Cascade captures the beautiful draping attitude of cascading flowers as they await the travails of the climate. Wild shows the beauty of frost-affected wild grasses of the country roadside even in death throes. The quintessential gum blossom features in the collection to remind the viewer of Australian native beauty. Illuminate is a salute to the everlasting beauty of the natural world and the reminiscences they bring to mind.
