Public Art Murals
As part of Camden's Cultural Activation Strategy, one priority included the delivery of temporary and permanent public artworks across the LGA. Over the course of three years, Council have endeavoured to realise this priority through the delivery of several public art murals. These murals have been developed by local and interstate artists, many engaging with our local communities to foster a heightened sense of place and belonging. See these projects below:
Ferguson Land Cricket Facility, Exeter Street, Camden.
Artist biography:
Brode Compton is a public artist with over twenty years of experience. His chosen medium is spray paint, and his works represent his deep connection to nature and are tales of resilience and harmony, beckoning us to reconnect with the Earth. He has completed several commissions including for Sydney Water, City of Ryde Council and Burwood Council.
Artwork statement:
Golden Graze captures the essence of Camden’s pastoral landscape in a vibrant tapestry of colours and forms. The concept for this mural highlights the rich agricultural history and natural beauty of the region. Drawing inspiration from the iconic merino sheep that have grazed these lands for generations and the lush apple orchards cultivated by Ferguson’s Nurseries, as well as the vibrant floral blooms that dot the countryside, the mural aims to celebrate the timeless charm and rural tranquillity of Camden.
Camden Rotary Club, Cnr of Menangle & Old Hume Highway
Artist Sekt Compton (Brode Compton) delivered a public art mural for Camden Rotary celebrating the unique character of the Camden community. At the heart of the mural is the platypus, a significant symbol for the area and Camden Council.
Corner Exeter St & Macquarie Grove Road
Artist Sekt Compton (Brode Compton) delivered a public art mural in partnership with Sydney Water and Camden Council. Brode engaged young students from Camden High School in June 2024 as an opportunity for youth to work with an established public artist to guide Brode's work to fruition.
1st Narellan Scout Group, Cnr Queen St &, Elyard St, Narellan NSW 2576
Artist Shannon Boyd was selected to deliver a public art mural at the 1st Narellan Scout Group hall. Shannon is a full time creative living and working in Penrith, Western Sydney. He is a multi-disciplined self taught artist using acrylic, aerosol, hand-drawn and digital mediums.
