Stars over the Gardens
Enjoy the Gardens under a starry night sky!
In collaboration with the Macarthur Astronomical Society, Shared Knowledge and astronomer Dr Ángel López-Sánchez, we will explore the wonders of the moon and stars. Feel free to come in early for a self-catered picnic at our venue, Lakeside Lawn.
Join us for this family-friendly experience featuring amateur astronomers from Macarthur Astronomical Society who will set up their telescopes and monitors to explain what can be seen in the wide sky over our beautiful garden after dark.
Drew Roberts from Shared Knowledge will then provide an Indigenous perspective and Dreamtime stories of the Australian sky, explaining how Indigenous astronomy is the first astronomical science, developed over tens of thousands of years.
Dr Ángel López-Sánchez, astronomer and science communicator from the Macquarie University will demonstrate optimal orientation for a telescope pointed at the night sky, as well as help us to recognise constellations, stars, and bright objects using a sky map.
This is an entirely outdoor event suitable for families with kids aged 5yrs and older. As this is a night time event, children must be closely supervised at all times.
