If you operate a business or own a commercial property, Council is able to offer you a garbage and/or recycling service.
Council provides a commercial garbage service that allows customers to choose a bin size that best suits their business or commercial property. Bin size options include 240 litre, 360 litre, 660 litre or 1100 litre for garbage bins.
Items you cannot put into your garbage bin include:
- No hazardous materials (batteries, paint tins, oil containers, gas cylinders, asbestos);
- No liquids (wastewater, oil, paint, cleaners, acids, chemicals);
- No demolition, construction or renovation materials;
- No electrical appliances; and
- No medical waste (needles or syringes)
Council provides a commercial co-mingled recycling service that allows customers to choose a bin size that best suits their business or commercial property. Bin size options include a 240L or 360L recycling bin. This means all paper, cardboard, glass and plastic materials with the triangle symbol with the numbers 1-7 can be disposed of in the same bin.
Items which can/cannot be put in your recycling bin are the same as residential bins.

Other Services for Businesses
The EPA’s Bin Trim Program provides free advice and support to businesses (with up to 400 staff) to help them identify and implement ways of cutting waste and potentially making cost savings.
Roughly 70% of the things in a business’ garbage bin can be reused or recycled. From cardboard, paper and plastic through to food waste – so much of this ends up in the garbage bin, when it could be avoided, reused or recycled.
Minimising the amount of waste sent to landfill is not just good for the planet; it is good for business, helping to attract more customers by showing an environmental awareness, increase staff morale, gain recognition for actions taken, and reduce impact on the environment.
Businesses can contact their local Bin Trim Assessor to book a free Bin Trim waste assessment and see what they could save! They may also assess if businesses are eligible for a rebate between $1,000 and $50,000 to help with buying recycling equipment (up to 50% capital cost).
Alternatively, businesses can use the free Bin Trim tool to get a profile of their waste.

Use the EPA's Recyculator to calculate and communicate the benefits of large-scale recycling for businesses. This interactive online tool helps businesses measure recycling's wider benefits: energy and water savings, fewer greenhouse gas emissions and less waste going to landfill.
