Yellow ribbons with lots of meaning will be installed at four roundabouts across the Camden area, as Council commemorates National Road Safety Week from Sunday 16 to 23 May.

National Road Safety Week highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it, with the large yellow ribbons on display at the following roundabouts:

• Argyle Street, Camden;
• Richardson Road and Elyard Street, Narellan;
• Richardson Road and Liz Kernohan Drive, Spring Farm; and
• Fairwater Drive and Harrington Parkway, Harrington Park.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said it was a great time for residents to become aware of the impact their driving can have on people in the community.

“Road Safety is very important for everyone in the community with more than 1,200 people killed and another 35,000 seriously injured on Australian roads on a yearly basis,” Cr Fedeli said.

“The statistics are heartbreaking and as a community we can make a pledge to drive as if our loved ones are on the road ahead of us and take care on our roads.

“The yellow ribbons to be displayed on four of our roundabouts will act as a reminder to residents to follow all road rules as well as honour those who have unfortunately lost their lives in tragic accidents.

“The Camden community has been fantastic in supporting a range of initiatives over the years and I encourage you to take part in National Road Safety Week and make the required change, if necessary, to your day.”

Throughout the week, national and state icons will also turn yellow to commemorate National Road Safety Week.
