Camden Council is encouraging the community to support local businesses through an online competition, with several prizes up for grabs.

The competition, which launches today, encourages people to share an image of their purchase on Facebook or Instagram, tag the local business and use the hashtag #camdenbought.

The competition will run for two weeks, with more than 10 randomly selected winners each receiving a prize valued at $50 from a local business.

Mayor Therese Fedeli said the aim of the competition, as part of the #camdenbought campaign, was to provide a simple and fun way for residents to engage with local businesses during lockdown and help stimulate the local economy.

“This lockdown has been hard on everybody in our community, but particularly our local businesses,” she said.

“It’s been extremely heart-warming to see the support our residents have given to local businesses throughout this pandemic and we need this to continue.

“Now is the time to show our businesses we are here for them by buying local.

The competition is just the latest aspect of Council’s #camdenbought digital media campaign, which was launched in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, Council promoted local businesses through its social media channels and provided #camdenbought bags to businesses to encourage residents to shop local.
