Even though libraries remain closed this week, local children will not miss out on National Simultaneous Storytime.

Camden Council Library Services has two online programs planned to keep kids entertained on Wednesday 27 May to celebrate the event. National Simultaneous Storytime, which celebrates its 20th year anniversary this year, is a colourful, vibrant, fun event. It aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said Council was proud to continue the tradition of National Simultaneous Storytime with a twist in 2020.

“Storytime plays an important role in introducing children to the magic of books and I am glad our team has come together to provide the event virtually this year,” Cr Fedeli said.

“The early introduction to reading develops a child's love of books and fosters a close, loving relationship between parent and child.

“This year the team has put together two fantastic online programs including costumes, singing and dancing that I am sure the kids will love.”

‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ will be the main book covered this year, teaching kids what they need to do to keep their own chickens.

Camden Libraries will host the two videos, pitched at pre-schoolers and primary school children, on the Camden Council Library Services Facebook page from 11am on Wednesday 27 May.
