Camden Council has been recognised with an NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) 2020 Supportive Employer Special Commendation Award, for its support in releasing volunteers to attend the recent bushfire crisis.

The prestigious award recognises the vital contribution employers make to the NSW RFS, especially by allowing volunteers to attend incidents and other NSW RFS activities during work hours.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said she was proud to be the only council to receive an award in 2020.

“As the bushfires swept through communities near and far, we saw volunteers, neighbours, friends, family and strangers right across the country leap to action,” Cr Fedeli said.

“We felt it was our responsibility at Council to support this crisis to the best of our ability. For me, being part of the Camden community has always meant banding together in times of need, helping a mate when they need it and keeping our sense of community pride strong.

“That’s why we were so proud to support our staff in assisting the RFS during a catastrophic bushfire season. We were also honoured to have the NSW RFS front and centre at this year’s Australia Day celebrations, where we unveiled a brand-new waste truck with a dedication to NSW RFS staff and volunteers.

“I’d like to thank NSW RFS for this recognition.”

NSW RFS Macarthur Inspector Nick Medianik said the recognition was a way to thank Camden Council for assisting those in need.

“Support of employers such as Camden Council is vital to the daily operations and functions of the NSW Rural Fire Service,” Mr Medianik said.

“Camden Council provides fantastic support to our Members through the release of employees to attend RFS activities and through their support to their local NSW Rural Fire Service District under legislated arrangements.”
