Camden Council’s Cohesive Communities Advisory Group has been recognised for their exceptional work in the community after taking out the NSW Volunteer Team of the Year award for South Western Sydney/Macarthur.

The NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards, hosted by the Centre for Volunteering, is one of the largest celebrations of volunteering and celebrates the efforts of our state’s volunteers across seven different award categories.

The group was formed as part of Council’s commitment to inclusive communities and includes a number of residents from diverse backgrounds, cultures and religions who work cohesively to advise, plan, develop and deliver multilayer initiatives and opportunities to build positive, inclusive and sustainable communities.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the award was fantastic recognition for the hard-working group.

“Council is proud and thankful for all its volunteers and it is great to see the Cohesive Communities Advisory Group rewarded for their work in our community,” Cr Fedeli said.

“These committed volunteers work tirelessly on Council’s social inclusion activities and provide input that contributes to policy and processes of Council’s organisational culture.

“Each member takes time outside of their own working commitments to help people from different backgrounds living in Camden to become comfortable with their surroundings, something that is very important in any community.

“I’d like to congratulate the group and thank the Centre of Volunteering for their recognition.”
