Residents are invited to attend the premiere screening of Military Wives at United Cinemas Narellan on Wednesday 12 March, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The movie celebrates a band of misfit women who form a choir on a military base. Unexpected bonds of friendship flourish as music and laughter transforms their lives, while they help each other during combat.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the movie, which is being screened in partnership with Camden-Wollondilly Domestic Violence Committee, was the perfect way to celebrate International Women’s Day.

“I’m proud to be celebrating more than 39,000 women living in the Camden area and their contribution to, not only their loved ones, but to the entire community,” she said.

“This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EachforEqual, which I think is a terrific message. I encourage the entire community to work towards creating a gender equal world.

“We’re also strongly committed to the prevention of domestic and family violence and this is another way to show the importance of women.”

Camden-Wollondilly Domestic Violence Committee convenor, Tanya Whitehouse OAM, said she was proud to be involved in an event promoting gender equality for women.

“I feel really privileged to be able to share International Women’s Day with strong men and women who want to celebrate the strength of women,” Ms Whitehouse said.

“I think as a community we should celebrate the versatility of women and strive to all work together so that women and men view themselves as equal.”

Tickets are on sale now and cost $15 for recliner or $10 for general seats.
