Almost 40 kilowatts of solar photovoltaics (solar panels) have been installed on community centres across the Camden area, helping to create a more sustainable community.

The project received grant funding from the Australian Government under their Stronger Communities Program and will significantly reduce electricity costs as well as reduce the environmental impact of these important community facilities.

The panels, installed on Julia Reserve, Catherine Park, Harrington Park and Gregory Hills community facilities, are expected to generate more than 55 megawatt hours of energy each year, that’s enough to boil a kettle 310,000 times, and save around $10,000 per year.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said adding solar panels to our community facilities was good for the environment and the community too.

“There were so many benefits to this project which made it a ‘must do’ for us,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Not only are we reducing our carbon footprint and producing clean and renewable energy, but we are significantly reducing our power bills for these centres, allowing us to put this money back into the community.

“I’d like to thank the Australian Government for their support on this project and for helping Camden Council work towards our environmental and sustainability goals.”

Council is committed to achieving our sustainability goals through the NSW Government Sustainability Advantage Program and creating a sustainable urban environment for our community to enjoy.
