Camden’s Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway has become a popular walking track throughout the COVID-19 pandemic with hundreds of visitors on a weekly basis.

Celebrating its first birthday this week, the Miss Llewella Davies Walkway, located at Camden Town Farm, covers riparian zones, pastoral, grazing and cropping paddocks, offers fantastic views of St Johns Church, the Chinese Washing Wells, the Nepean River and Macquarie House.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said both locals and visitors had taken a liking to the 2.35km walking track over the past year.

“It is fantastic that so many people have visited the Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway within the first year of its existence,” Cr Fedeli said.

“The Camden Town Farm was bequeathed to Camden Council by Miss Llewella Davies, who wanted the property to be left to the community for their benefit and enjoyment and I believe she would be glad to see its current use.

“It has also been a valuable local resource as residents looked to get active and keep fit during an unprecedented year living through a global pandemic.

“I encourage those who have not walked the track yet to visit Camden Town Farm and take in the beautiful scenery.”

The Miss Llewella Davies Pioneer Walkway remains open with residents reminded to keep physical distance during the walk.
Residents can choose from three different walking tracks, including:

  • Matahill Creek Loop, which is 800 metres in length. This track has a flat, even surface with no steps or steep sections and is suitable for wheelchair users with assistance;
  • Nepean River Link, which is an extension of the Matahill Creek Loop. This extra 250-metres track has a flat, even surface with no steps or steep sections. It is suitable for wheelchair users who have someone to assist; and
  • Elizabeth Street Farm Link, which is 1.3 kilometres long. This track may have short steep hill sections with rough surfaces and is not wheelchair accessible.

Residents are reminded that the walking track is located in a working farm and as such, dogs are prohibited from the walkway. Due to the narrow nature of the walkway and barbed wire enclosing, cycling is also prohibited.
