Harrington Forest’s Cumberland Plain Woodland is set to be restored after Council successfully secured funding of $20,000 from the Australian Government’s Communities Environment Program 2019/2020.

The aim of the project is to restore, enhance and protect the critically endangered ecological community, Cumberland Plain Woodland within Harrington Forest.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli said the project would create a great future connection between residents and the local environment.

“Camden residents are lucky enough to be living amongst many fantastic environmental locations like Harrington Forest and this is a great win for the community,” Cr Fedeli said.

“This project will deliver both positive environmental and social outcomes with plans in place to host citizen science activities at Harrington Forest.

“I thank both Federal Environment Minister the Honourable Sussan Ley and Macarthur MP Dr Mike Freelander for their support in securing this funding and look forward to the project taking shape.”

The works, expected to be completed between June and December 2020, include:

  • Removal of woody weeds throughout the five-hectare project site; and
  • Citizen science activities with the Bushcare group to install 10 nest boxes for native birds and mammals within the restored site.

Restoration of the site will be completed through primary and secondary weed treatment throughout the five-hectare site.
