Cultural food, song and dance will be on display in the heart of Oran Park with the annual Camden Cultures this March.

Camden Cultures, part of Multicultural March, will be held on Saturday 21 March, 4pm, at Oran Park Library Forecourt and Perich Park. The free, fun-filled, family-friendly event is set to enliven and transform Oran Park with a variety of activities to enjoy, including:

  • Live music and entertainment;
  • Cultural performances;
  • Fashion parade;
  • International themed food vendors; and
  • Screening Bend it Like Beckham on an inflatable screen, under the stars at 8pm.

Fashion parade organiser, Thobe Luphahla, said it was a privilege to share her cultural background with other cultural backgrounds at the event.

"I enjoy the fact that a lot of people from different cultures come together and meet new people, try different food and enjoy dancing from different backgrounds,” Mrs Luphahla said.

“People really enjoyed the fashion parade last year and this year we are trying to have more kids involved and even more different costumes to take it to the next level.

“Camden Cultures is a great opportunity for people to meet other people and enjoy cultural diversity in the area.”

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said celebrating so many different cultures and traditions also brings harmony to the community.

“This event allows us to understand people from different backgrounds and celebrate every single resident living in our beautiful area,” Cr Fedeli said.

“I come from an Italian background myself, so I know how special and important it is to feel accepted and celebrated by communities around me. I’m proud to be celebrating more than 110 nationalities, 85 birthplaces, 64 languages and 38 religions that call Camden home.

“I encourage all of our residents to head down to Oran Park and try a new dish, enjoy the cultural performances and even sit back and relax while watching a free movie.”

The event will also include inclusive games and activities for all abilities, sensory toys, cushions and books and disability services NDIS, EACH and Vinnies all attending.
