The first playground upgrades as part of Council’s COVID-19 Community Support Package have officially started this month.

Council will invest $130.6 million across the three stages of its COVID-19 Community Support Package to support residents and local businesses suffering the shock of COVID-19.

It’s estimated all three stages will boost Camden’s economy by up to $221.7 million and generate up to 507 new jobs, with works to four playgrounds starting this month including:

  • Macquarie Grove Reserve fencing - A wire rope fencing with two gates for maintenance access will be installed around the perimeter of Macquarie Grove Reserve. This project was completed this week;
  • McCrae Drive Playground upgrade – Installation of new playground equipment and park furniture, replacement of soft-fall rubber and landscaping works. Works to be completed in August 2021, weather permitting;
  • Royal George Drive playground upgrade - Installation of new playground equipment and park furniture, replacement of soft-fall rubber and landscaping works. Works to be completed in August 2021, weather permitting; and
  • Yandel’ora Reserve equipment upgrade – Installation of new contemporary fitness equipment as well as park furniture and a bubbler, replacement of soft-fall rubber and landscaping works. Works to be completed in August 2021, weather permitting.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said Council’s COVID-19 Community Support Package gave the community a massive boost moving forward.

“It’s estimated all three stages of Council’s Community Support Package will boost Camden’s economy by up to $221.7 million, increasing GRP by up to $102 million and generating up to 507 new jobs,” Cr Fedeli said.

“A real personal highlight has been all three stages of the Community Support Package. I am proud to see Council helping the community in a variety of ways in coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic as strong as possible.

“These four playground upgrades will have a direct effect to a number of our residents who use these facilities. I look forward to seeing these and many other projects completed as part of the Community Support Package.”
