Waste Objectives

Waste is an increasing problem locally, nationally and internationally. Each year we recycle more, but on the other hand, we are also creating more. Consequently, Camden Council has developed the Strategic Plan – Camden 2025.

This strategy is designed to implement a Waste Management Plan to establish waste reduction targets, identify recycling and re-use opportunities, foster broad community input into implementing the Waste Management Plan, involve schools in waste reduction programs, develop opportunities to involve both commerce and industry in waste reduction programs and promote the concept of cleaner production by commerce and industry.

Camden Council is also committed to the waste hierarchy established under the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2001, and encourages:

Avoidance

Including action to reduce the amount of waste generated by households, industry and government.

Resource Recovery

Including reuse, reprocessing, recycling and energy recovery, consistent with the most efficient use of the recovered resources.

Disposal

Including management of all disposal options in the most environmentally responsible manner.
