NSW ELECTORAL COMMISSION - RETURNING OFFICER
On 27 June 2011, the Local Government Amendment (Elections) Act 2011 was passed in NSW Parliament. Section 296 of the Act enabled councils to administer their own elections, constitutional referendums and polls. Councils had until 30 November 2011 to advise the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) or another service provider to conduct these elections. Camden Council resolved in late 2011 that the NSWEC undertake the 2012 Local Government Election on behalf of Camden.
In order to oversee the running of the Local Government Elections, the NSWEC appoints a Returning Officer to those Councils who resolved to have the Elections undertaking by them. All electoral matters, including Candidate Nominations, Postal and Pre-Poll Voting, Ballet Paper Draw and Registration of Electoral Material, are handled by the Returning Officer.

HOW TO NOMINATE FOR THE ELECTIONS
Candidate nominations can be lodged with the Returning Officer from the day the electoral roll closes (30 July 2012) up to 12 noon on nomination day (8 August 2012).
