Council Meetings

Camden Council meets regularly to discuss local issues and make decisions on behalf of the community. Decisions must be made at an open meeting by the whole Council. All meetings of Council are open to the public and residents are welcome to attend.

The Mayor leads the Council Meeting and follows the procedures of how these meetings should be run. The General Manager and senior staff are also present to give explanations or information to Council. Other Council staff may also attend Council Meetings to answer questions and explain reports.

Code of Meeting Practice

Council is required to adopt a Code of Meeting Practice, which sets out the manner in which meetings of Council and Committees of Council are convened and conducted.

All Councillors, staff and community members participating in Council meetings must act with good intentions and behave to the standard of conduct expected by the community.

The Local Government Act 1993 and Part 10 of the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 prescribes certain proceedures that must be followed in Council and Committee meetings. The Camden Code of Meeting Practice has incorporated the provisions of the Regulation with only minor additions to reflect Camden's meeting practices.

Public Addresses at Council Meetings

Section 3.6 of Council's Code of Meeting Practice (link provided above) provides further information on Public Addresses at Council Meetings.
