2008 Council Elections

The 2008 Council Elections will be held on Saturday 13 September, 2008 to elect nine (9) Councillors in three (3) wards covering the Camden Local Government Area. Voting is compulsory for all residents.

This Election page will be updated with relevant local information for the community and candidates in the lead up to the election date - so check this page regularly. However, for specific information on the conduct of the election, persons should conduct the NSW Electoral Commission, via the suggestions below, or contact the Returning Officer. 


Returning Officer Details

The Council election is conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission, who has appointed a full time Returning Officer. The Returning Officer, Mr Paul Sweeney, has commenced duties and is contactable on 0447 625 027. His office is located in 'The Undercroft', Camden Civic Centre, Oxley Street, Camden and he is available during normal business hours. He has the full responsibility for all election matters. Council staff have no direct involvement in the election process.

Handbook

The Local Government and Shires Association have produced a handbook for candidates entitled 'Becoming a Councillor' and interested persons can download copies from their website, link provided below.

The NSW Electoral Commission will also provide a candidate handbook prior to the commencement of the seminars, as discussed above.
