Leppington Oval Precinct Masterplan

This project is funded by the NSW Government and Council's local contribution funds.

Council’s vision for Leppington Oval Precinct is to ensure it is a green and interconnected space, grounded in its cultural and natural history.

This Precinct will be the first of many open space, recreation and creek projects delivered in Leppington. The vision for the site is that it will become a vibrant place where the communities of Leppington meet, move and play. The project will deliver more sporting facilities, parking, spaces to sit and relax, new trees and planting, a pedestrian crossing of Scalabrini Creek, and a network of shared paths and cycle network.

On 13 September 2022, Camden Council endorsed the Leppington Oval Precinct Masterplan.

The Leppington Oval Precinct Masterplan is a combination of four land areas; the Sports Precinct, Community Centre, Stage 1 and the Public Reserve.

The Sports Precinct is located on the southern side of the site, adjoining Heath Road, Byron Road, Messenger Road and Capparis Lane. The existing Leppington Oval and Pat Kontista Reserve are included in this area. The amended plan for this area includes:

  • Sports courts;
  • Two full sized playing fields including a synthetic turf field and one natural turf field;
  • Three natural turf mini fields;
  • Formalised parking; and
  • Shared paths for walking and cycling.

Council is working towards delivering the first part of the Sports Precinct including the synthetic and natural turf fields, the mini fields, new amenities building, minor refurbishment works to the existing amenities building, warm up zones, spectator seating areas, parking spaces and a shared pathway network.

The Community Centre is located to the southern side of the site, adjoining Heath Road and Rickard Road and will include:

  • A Community Centre;
  • Rain gardens and drainage; and
  • Boardwalks and shared paths for walking and cycling.

Stage 1 is located adjacent to Rickard Road and links the Sports Precinct and the Community Centre to the Public Reserve, and will include:

  • Connective pathways for walking and cycling;
  • Basins, drainage channels and rain gardens; and
  • Interactivity with Scalabrini Creek.

The Public Reserve is located at the north of the site, neighbouring Amity College and will include:

  • Passive open space;
  • Boardwalk;
  • Play equipment; and
  • Shared pathway for walking and cycling.

March 2025 - Leppington Oval Precinct Project Update

Development designs have recently been completed for the first part of the Sports Precinct. As a result of the site constraints and considerations, and to help ensure Council delivers an active and high-quality sporting experience, Council has made the following changes to the original Sports Precinct plan adopted in 2022.

Reconfiguration of the three sports fields to two and will now include one synthetic turf field, one natural turf field and three turf mini fields;
Increasing the amount of public amenity (including seating, pathways and retaining existing trees) and shared pathways; and
The inclusion of junior cricket.
The amendments to the playing fields aim to improve the active sporting experience, the passive recreation opportunities and align with the proposed masterplan vision for this open space.

To see the amended site plan, learn more about the project and provide comment, visit the Leppington Oval Precinct Masterplan page. Feedback is welcome until Monday 24 March 2025.
